Bantu (Allu Arjun) grows up to gain recognition from a cold-hearted Valmiki (Murali Sharma) who puts him down at every step of his life. Millionaire Ramchandra (Jayaram) wished his son Raj Manohar (Sushant A) was more vocal. How Bantu’s life with him renders the narrative.
Alla Vaikunthaparamulu is set in the cool, beautifully constructed, pastel-hat cotton-candy-land that Trivikram Srinivas makes. Here the evil-doers are left to their own devices, in the hope that they will get karma. And when that doesn’t work, they definitely kill in black and blue, but in style. The film sets up a lot of the characters and features scenarios that are completely impossible. But the biggest strength of the film is that you buy it all, even though Trivikram, nevertheless, tells the story of a man who wants to help the family he cares about.
The existence of Bantu (Allu Arjun) is banned by his father Valmiki (Murali Sharma, a brilliant performance). The elder man likes to put his son down on every occasion, which reminds him of his fate to be born into a middle-class family. He is more interested than Raj Manohar (Sushant A.), the son of his boss Ramachandra (Jayaram) and there is a reason. When the chaos Bantu discovers the truth about his father and with the help of Vaikunthapremam (the grand house resides on Ramachandra and his family), he realizes that he is worth watching. But not because the film draws something new, it is not.
The film is not without its issues. While the romance between Amulya (Pooja Hegde) and Bantu is captivating, especially the Samajwagamna and Butta Bomma on the numbers of Thaman S, the way it all starts is extremely problematic. The fact that Bantu can’t stop staring at Amulya’s feet because they are beautiful is played for laughs, but Trivikram balances it very ironically, giving his leads a line that seems to be about consent. Talks in Pooja Hegde manages to bring spunk to a character who is nothing more than a frantic pixie dream girl, but she is sure a joy to watch on-screen. Tabu’s character is also very bad (shame), and her emotional scene with her husband doesn’t work perfectly. But he is no less than a man of grace. Sushant A doesn’t have much to do either.
Many characters are set in Ala Vaikunthaparamulu, played by Nivetha Pethuraj, Rahul Ramakrishna, Navdeep, Sunil, Harshvardhan, even by Samuthirakani, the proponent of this story and more, but the key players Murali Sharma, Sachin Khedekar (In a role) having so much fun with Hain) and of course, Allu Arjun. Allu Arjun dipped his teeth into his role, pulling it effortlessly. He is comfortable being the pathetic son because he is playing the role of a man who will kill everyone around him, who will smile sleepily despite his circumstances and instead of blaming his father, takes the weight of his life. He, of course, dances like a dream and is a joy to watch the fight scenes by Rama-Laxman. Especially a special sequence that includes a fight and a folk song. There is also a tribute to famous celebs from Tollywood.
The music and background score of Thaman S is impressive for this (Ramulu Ramula and OMG Daddy are the killers) and PS Vinod’s cinematography is good. Naveen Nulli’s editing could not be tighter, especially in the second half, where the film did not pack as punch as it did in the first half. Fans of Trivikram may remember his trademark punch humor dialogues, but fitting in with the film’s theme, the comedy in it is more dry and sarcastic, and it works!
Alha Vaikunthaparamulu has everything and despite clichés and predictable storylines; Trivikram promises to work and deliver it. Check out this one for Allu Arjun, especially if you are a fan, as he shines in this one and of course, it is all fun.
