Aryan is a narcotics bureau officer who is entitled to make the city a drug free zone. Despite capturing a large number of drug stacks and peddlers, Aryan and his team have not been able to completely eliminate the dangerous problem. One fateful day, Aryan’s very close people kill him one by one. He feels that it may be the work of the mastermind that lags behind the entire distribution network. The mafia begins with an unexpected shoot out that takes place on Saturday night at the posh hotel. We are then taken back on Wednesday – a small drug operation led by Aryan, after which one or two drug users are caught. The sudden death of Aryan’s superior officer and activist Mugilan, who was behind a major drug cartel, leads to further questioning. Once Aryan realizes that it is businessman Diwakar, who rules the drug mafia, an interesting cat and mouse game begins. The feud between the hero and the antagonist is aided by decent fistfights, gunfights, and brain games. When Aryan takes on the mighty Diwakar, we feel that hunting the latter is near impossible. But when Aryan almost does so, he understands that Diwakar is one of the many venomous snakes in the den.
As the title says, this is the first chapter of the Mafia, and the way the film ends awaits us eagerly for the next chapter, thanks to a spectacular twist in the climax, which is one reason why the latter half. It comes as quite attractive. There are not many surprises in the first half and the characters take some time to expand and establish. The presentation and narration, at times, remind you of the web series format because you feel that some cinematic elements are missing. The number of slow-motion shots and spoon-feeding could have been avoided in some scenes. Mafia will appeal to fans of action films, especially those with a stylish narcotics background. All said and done, here is the mafia waiting: Chapter 2.
